Flooring
Flooring
There are many types, and suppliers of hardwood flooring available. Composite joinery can supply OEM flooring or our own custom made flooring for your particular application using most hardwoods in various sizes.
Some instances require reclaimed flooring, this is generally hard or pitch pine reclaimed from demolition, and can be difficult to locate. An alternative is reclaimed joists which are then sawn and machined to provide the required thickness and surface finish. The ‘pine bedroom ‘ shows reclaimed pine joists that have been sawn, machined and finished using several coats of hard wearing satin floor varnish. To maintain authenticity the boards remain square edged and have not been converted to T&G. The restored parquet floor again has been finished with a hard wearing satin varnish. Similarly, the dark stained pine living area has been finished with matt hard wearing varnish. The last photo shows an engineered Walnut floor.
The Oak flooring above, is shown before and after the application of stain and varnish. Note the bandsaw marks have been left partly visible, this is intentional and adds to the character of the floor. The door is made from the same boards as the floor, the reclaimed hinges are secured with hand made nails, and the latch has been crafted to suit the door. Composite Joinery can design and construct such doors to suit any size, alternative timber types are available. The choice of finish is optional. Enquire for details.
Thresholds
Bespoke thresholds designed and made by Composite Joinery, provided as ’supply only’ or we will install for you. Available in a variety of hardwoods and hardwood combinations.
A threshold is a section of hardwood that is used to divide or provide a means for two different floor coverings to meet. Generally these are installed in doorways, there may be carpet in one room and ceramic tiles in another and the threshold is designed to cover the edge of the tile and provide a cove fit for the carpet.
Threshold Combinations
Quite often the species of wood used from one room to another varies. To maintain continuity Composite Joinery make threshold combinations to match this variation in species.
The above example shows continuity by providing a threshold made from combintion of Beech and American Ash, leading from bedroom to en-suite bathroom. The bedroom having bespoke furniture made using American Ash and the en-suite having bespoke vanity unit, window board and shower surround made from Beech. Again these bespoke items of furniture were designed, manufactured and installed by Composite Joinery.
An Extra Large Oak Threshold Under Construction
The Oak threshold, above, measures in excess of 4 metres by 360mm wide and is shown here being constructed. The threshold is made from staves that have been milled from prepared and kiln dried Oak.
Composite Joinery are able to make any threshold for any aspect from a variety of hardwoods.
