Engineered hardwood flooring consists of layered tiers of hardwood pressed together. The wood surface veneer layer is available in many different species, designs and finishes, and is available in various thicknesses ranging from 0.5mm up to 6mm. A typical veneer is 3.6mm and can be sanded (re-finished) upto three or four times. During the manufacturing process, the layers of hardwood alternate in different direction. This means engineered hardwood flooring is relatively stable, dependant on application, and is almost identical to solid wooden flooring in appearance. However the texture , warmth and ‘feel’ of ‘real wood’ can not be equaled by an engineered substitute. Engineered wood flooring is perfect for areas of the house where solid wood flooring may not be as suitable, such as cellars, or over underfloor heating.
