Pine & Burgundy Bookcase

A bespoke bookcase designed to size and compliment the decor of the room. Using solid pine boards, plywood and a burgundy laminate, this bookcase is finished in a mixture of beeswax and carnauba providing a durable and easy to maintain surface finish. As always, the design was completed using our CAD software and rendered in several finish styles before construction began. This procedure provides the client with the ability to view any combination of colours and materials before making the final decision to commence construction of the project.

The following show the bookcase during pre-assembly.

The final three photo’s show the bookcase finished, delivered and installed.

Pergola for Wisteria

This Pergola replaced one which had collapsed due to decay. The Pergola was intertwined through the branches of the Wisteria to match exactly the prior position of the old pergola. A job well done and will, by using tanalised timber, last for many years.

We make all types of Pergola for climbing plants to your design ideas, or perhaps to our suggestions, also arbors, planters, cold frames, greenhouses – all in hardwood, softwood is an option but does not have the longevity as hardwood. Enquire for details.

Butterfly Inset – These explanatory notes accompany images 24 through to 32 above.

This type of inset is both a feature and an aid to forming a strong and stable joint. It is necessary here since the joint is formed from end-grain, and end-grain joints on their own are liable to part. The addition of the insets prevents this from occurring, Additionally the surface area of the whole glue joint is increased by using insets, and so provides good stability. To add further to this stability, biscuit and/or loose tongues are used internally on the joint. There are alternative methods to form this joint, mortise and tenon would provide similar strength and stability by giving a good surface area for the glue to bond the joint, but would need to be dowelled to help prevent lateral movement. Since a feature joint is more aesthetically pleasing we have used inset joinery.

En Suite with Matki Walk-In Shower Matki walk-in shower, pumped, with quality thermostatic control, riser rail and adjustable spray handset, 200mm deluge rose controlled via a divertor valve. Either use the handset or deluge individually or both on together. A fantastic shower. Tiles are 300mm by 200mm plain white which are interspersed with a relief patterned tile, hard to see in the photo’s and subtle in reality.
En Suite with Matki Walk-In Shower The beech trim was completely sealed before being installed to the shower tray. No ingress of water or staining has been experienced, the many coats of marine varnish and sealant have protected the beech.
En Suite with Matki Walk-In Shower Other species of timber could be used in place of the beech, and the trim and worktops could be made using larger staves, here we have milled small staves and then glued them together to form the required sizes. Combination of two different species could be achieved, perhaps black walnut or sapele for the worktop and a contrasting blonde species, maple, elm for the framing. Enquire.

En Suite with Matki Walk-In Shower The wash basin cupboard has been made to suit the dimensions of the alcove, so providing good storage space. The inset basin is standard as is the mono block mixer tap, but of good quality. The side lights are operated from a standard plate switch outside of the shower room but are also controlled from insde the shower room by a pull switch. Why? The pull switch turns off the side lights and switches the bright down lights on, this is so at night the side lights take preference so as not to disturb your partner.
En Suite with Matki Walk-In Shower The large airing cupboard houses the pump and full bore lever isolation valves for the shower, toilet and wash basin, all hidden under a removable access lid. The internal shelfs are all slat construction and each slat has been sanded and varnished. The louvre door is a standard size and the frame was built to suit. Note the shine of the gloss marine varnish to the worktop, this shine is applicable to all of the beech installed to the en-suite.
En Suite with Matki Walk-In Shower The door threshold is made from beech and ash, the joint line being hidden when the door is closed. Beech on one side to match the style of the en-suit and ash on the other to match the bespoke ash floor to ceiling wardrobes, again dseigned, manufactured and installed by Composite Joinery.
