Gate (Side)

These are the preliminary design drawings for a side gate which is currently in the design process.

This gate will have a steel inset to depict the ‘Sun’ rising and the gate will be constructed using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. The gate will be available to order in a variety of hardwoods, namely Cedar, Oak, Mahogany, Composite Joinery will also make this gate available in joinery grade pine or Idigbo should you wish for a stain or paint finish. Composite Joinery will supply the gate and install as part of our service, or offer as supply only. As the design continues we will update this page to include construction details and photographs of the gate being manufactured.

Welcome to my personal music page, Note this page has opened in another ‘tab’, just click on the previous ‘tab’ after you have selected your playlist, and you will go back to the page you were on. I compiled this simply because I like to have music in the background when working on the pages for this site. I also enjoy the music when browsing and thought you may enjoy this facility. Thresholds

A threshold is a section of hardwood that is used to divide or provide a means for two different floor coverings to meet. Generally these are installed in doorways, there may be carpet in one room and ceramic tiles in another and the threshold is designed to cover the edge of the tile and provide a cove fit for the carpet.

Composite Joinery regularily provide bespoke thresholds. Such thresholds are provided as ’supply only’ or we will install for you. Available in a variety  of hardwoods and hardwood combinations. Read more about this, and view some examples.

Engineered Hardwood Flooring

Engineered hardwood flooring offers a good flooring option for a range of business, office or home applications.  Composite Joinery specialise in a range of engineered hardwood flooring products. We supply and professionally install all types of hardwood flooring.

Walnut Engineered Boards

Engineered hardwood flooring consists of layered tiers of  hardwood pressed together. The wood surface veneer layer is available in many different species, designs and finishes, and is  available in various thicknesses ranging from 0.5mm up to 6mm. A typical veneer is 3.6mm and can be sanded (re-finished) upto three or four times. During the manufacturing process, the layers of hardwood alternate in different direction. This means engineered hardwood flooring is  relatively stable, dependant on application, and is almost identical to solid wooden flooring in appearance. However the texture , warmth and ‘feel’ of ‘real wood’ can not be equaled by an engineered substitute. Engineered wood flooring is perfect for areas of the house where solid wood flooring may not be as suitable, such as cellars,  or over underfloor heating. Engineered hardwood flooring is  available with a wide range of styles to choose from.

Pine Bedroom

Some instances require reclaimed flooring, this is generally hard or pitch pine reclaimed from demolition, and can be difficult to locate. An alternative is reclaimed joists which are then sawn and machined to provide the required thickness and surface finish. This ‘Pine Bedroom’ shows reclaimed pine joists that have been sawn, machined and finished using several coats of  hard wearing satin floor varnish. To maintain authenticity the boards remain square edged and have not been converted to T&G.

Pine Floorboards.

Using similar methods, the architrave, skirting board and window board were made and installed to match the pine floor boards. All exposed pine was thoroughly sanded, sealed and several coats of varnish (with UV filters) were applied. In ths instance the architrave, skirting and window board were machined to have square edges, almost any edge design can be catered for by our machinery, or even sometimes by vintage hand planes. We use these planes on occasion when we are matching ‘old’ mouldings, dado rails, picture rails and beading for example. The alternative is sometimes to grind special cutters for our machines depending on the quantity of the moulding that is required.

Floor Restoration

The series of photographs show a damaged floor before and after restoration. Mahogany, Sapele, Maple, Ebony and teak are  some of the hardwoods used in the construction of this parquet floor.

The following images show the finished floor after several coats of floor varnish. The remaining thresholds, not seen here, were completed at a later date after decoration.

To compliment this entrance hall floor Composite Joinery designed and manufactured new stair balusters, handrail, radiator cover and a small ‘deco style’ hall cupboard. These bespoke items are constructed using the combination of Sapele and Maple.
